In which Red meets a Chihuahua.

I got a chance to stop by the barn today after getting dog food and dinner, I had Windy the Chihuahua (see previous post) with me and thought it would be interesting to see her reaction to the horses. She was not the happiest puppy in the world and shook the whole time until mom took her out so I could see to Red's needs, but Red was absoloutly in love with her.

Urgh, puppy LOOK AT THE CAMERA.

Red was absoloutly disgusting - probably the dirtiest I have ever seen him. He'd obviously done some rolling and playing, probably got rained on and was just...ew. So I managed to get a quick brush down in before he ate. One of his hooves are slightly chipped for whatever reason and BM said he was a little tender on it but it wasn't really noticeable and definitely wasn't affecting him. Still no issues with founder this summer and his sweet itch is under control thanks to my amazing Barn Manager. He's a happy pony, I think.

We also got the barn closed in today!! We still have to build stalls and etc but that will be later because we are literally out of money. Still praying and hoping that the rezoning goes well, it's very nerve-wracking. We have a chance of getting turned down. It's very slim, but it's possible and that makes me so stressed out. Ah!

In other news, I don't think I'm going to have the trainer I used back out. I do want to find someone else but I don't feel like we are on the same page. I need someone who understands that my goals do not involve an arena, ribbons and buckles. Maybe I can find a natural horsemanship trainer somewhere around here. I just don't feel like our training ideas and hopes for the future go well together. Oh well! I did learn a lot, which is good, and I do want to continue taking lessons at least once a month when they are home and my little arena is set up. I can afford it for myself so why not? Until then, we'll continue things with the people I have around which are amazing and know what they are doing.

I'm hoping to ride sometime this weekend. Life, Y U so busy!?!?!?!?!?!

  1. Windy is just SO cute.... :D I understand your decision about the trainer - its super important to have your trainer on the same page as you. :)

  2. So cute! You definitely need to have a trainer on the same page as you, I hope you can find one. Good luck with the zoning!

  3. That sucks about the trainer, but such is life right? I've taken oodles of lessons, all of which took place in an arena. Did I WANT to be in the arena? NOPE! I wanted to be galloping freely across the open prairies with the wind in my hair!! But as ALL the instructors kept reminding me, you gotta learn to walk before you can learn to fly! The things I learned in the arena helped me out on the trail which is the only thing I can do now that I don't have an arena. And while I don't envision myself doing dressage out on the trail in the rugged badlands, I've taken what I learned and brought it out to the great outdoors (all the different aides, posture, 3 lines of equitation yada, yada, yada). And if we are being completely honest here. I didn't even want to do dressage. It was super boring. But I learned so much that I kept doing it, those pretty blue ribbons were just a little bonus. I could have lived the rest of my life happily if I never showed. It's totally cool to try out a few different trainers, always keep an open mind, and just see what you can learn from them. I've had super snobby western lessons that made me question if I wanted to ride ever again, and I've had laid back fun english lessons. You are the one paying for them to work for you, so you should get what you want out of the lessons.

    P.S. Windy is adorable.

    1. I totally agree! I thought it was really fun to do lessons but the trainer definitely didn't work out, sadly. :( I would love to take some english lessons though!
