Blame it all on my roots.

Happy Halloween!! Sadly, even though I meant to, I wasn't able to do anything with Redman costume related, although I am planning on riding Saturday, also the day of a Halloween party, so I may try to get a photo beforehand. We shall see!! We did, however, stop by the barn for a few minutes before we had to leave to get to a meet at Wal-Mart to pick up something.

J, the owner of the farm, bought a new horse and he was delivered today!! For those who know Lady, Trigger and Raven, this boy is Trig and Raven's sire and Lady's colt. I didn't get photos, although I'm sure I'll get some on Saturday. I was camera-less today. He's a TWH, 15HH, sorrel. His eyes are really cool. They are mostly brown, but both eyes have huge blue spots on both eyes. He's 4, broke but very high-spirited. He'll need to go to a trainer soon. He's been ridden around on trails, mountains and does well but the older gentleman couldn't ride such a spirited horse.

After I greeted the new pony, I said hello to Red who was chilling out in the barn. I saw a lead and had a spur-of-the-moment decision-no pun intended-and got Jeff to give me a leg-up.
Pshaw, who needs bridles??

I considered putting his hackamore on so I could ride around outside but decided against it and just let us have some bonding time. ;) He didn't have his halter on, and I knew he'd be good with the tackless thing so I just laid around on him. At one point I was on my back, legs out on his butt and head on his neck. He just chilled out like, "okay."

I know that no horse is perfect, believe me. Red has his faults, I mean, I have a HUGE bruise on my leg and a scar that just won't leave from his faults, but I 100% trust him. He would never harm me on purpose. What horse would put up with me like he does?? Even my mother and everyone at the barn is astounded at how close we are in so little time. I have had him for a year. I don't get to see him daily, sadly. I maybe get 3 visits a week, which stinks, but I have to make do with what I have until I'm able to be there every single day-which trust me, is coming soon-and we are this close. I'd love to know how close we'd be if he lived at home!!

Y'all will have to forgive the awful quality of the photos. Jeff was taking them, the barn was getting dark, it was overcast, Red kept moving, blah blah.

Anyways, pretty good way to spend Halloween :)

Talk to y'all on Saturday!

  1. I love that bond between horse and rider -- it's just not the same when you don't own them. I'm really looking forward to those special moments with Miles :-)

    1. I do, too!!! It's really amazing to me. I've owned several other animals and made a bond with almost all of them, from a guinea pig to a pit bull, to goats and chickens, but there is literally nothing more powerful than the bond that you can create with such an amazing animal. I still get on him and think, man, this horse could kill me in a heartbeat and he just lets me do all of the crazy stuff I attempt!

    1. You will one day!!! Just wait for the perfect horse and NEVER settle for one that you aren't crazy over the minute you meet him or her!! (and don't let looks persuade you, if I did, I wouldn't have Red and my mom wouldn't have had her heart horse, Beauty, who was hideous, lol!!!)
