Introducing...Charlie!

Okay y'all, I hesitated to post this before I knew for sure, but we are 99% sure that this is working out and I just couldn't wait to post!

As y'all probably saw on my last post, we looked at a TWH gelding yesterday to be a potential new horse for our family. We ended up not liking him and mom wasn't sold on him. This morning, I was in my room when mom burst in and say, "Kalin, I found my horse!!" My mom isn't one to be overly excited when it comes to horses. She's very good at being realistic with them and knowing what she wants and waiting for the perfect horse for her and I've honestly never seen her this excited over a potential new horse. She was looking around on my Facebook groups when she saw Charlie, a young Quarter Horse gelding for sale in Kentucky. He was saved from a slaughter house along with several other horses in his herd. He's very docile, laid back, and very, very broke. He rides perfectly and has wonderful ground manners, he's 15.2 hands, and he does need groceries but nothing extreme.

Basically, he's exactly what my mom wants, just minus Appaloosa spots. ;) But, she has been more interested in Quarter Horses lately because Appaloosa's tend to have, well, appy-tude, and this new horse would be the family horse. Something she could ride, run around on, do things with, and something like Red, that the kids and Jeff could ride. He's below our perfect price, which is amazing, and we called probably 10 minutes after staring at the ad. The lady gave us information on him and made us fall even more in love with a horse we've never met, and mom just has this amazing feeling about him. (yes, we go by feelings and pictures. don't judge.)  She said that we would have to fill out an application and send 2 references and photos of our farm. She said there have been numerous calls and emails on him, so we were concerned and basically just said, "Whatever you need done, we'll do. We want him." Mom told her about our various rescues and she was very happy that we are familiar with rescuing and that we work well with rescues. I sent her before and after photos of Red to show how much he's changed and she was very impressed and happy that there would be two people that do know horses well and two people that know rescues and know what to do that would mess with him the most.

Anywho, long story short we put down a deposit and the lady said that if our application is accepted, he's ours.

*squeals*

I would post photos but I'm not sure if I'm allowed yet, so I'll wait. For those who are interested, he's a chestnut with a blaze and no leg markings (which I prefer, sorry people who love chrome, LOL) He needs work, but I'm so excited to be potentially rescuing again. I've decided that there's nothing I love more than rescuing! I'll keep y'all posted!! Good thoughts and prayers are appreciated - if it works out, he should get to come home in 2 weeks time.

  1. That sounds great! I think every horse is great and can be worked with, but you need to really find your match. Not every horse is for everyone. Your mom's a trooper though! Glad you know where your other boy would be going. Good luck with the new guy (getting him that is). :) I'm sure they know you're the right place.

    1. I definitely agree! If he doesn't click, we'll find him a good home where he does :) But we have a really good feeling..I can't even describe it, haha! But it'll be worked out no matter what! Spirit would only go to the perfect home as well, preferably with someone we know very well! :)

  2. I saw his pics on IG, he's adorable and reminds me of Pistol! Is he full quarter? He kind of looks like he had a bit of TB in there, kind of like Pistol. Every horse I've ever met named Charlie has been an angel of a horse. My first horse was named Charlie Yellow. There were two other horses named Charlie at our barn so we called them by their colors, Charlie Yellow, Charlie Red, and Charlie Brown, my boss was dead set on not changing horses names because it was bad luck!
My husband's cousin just got a horse named Charlie. I always say it's a sign of a great horse. ;-)

    1. I thought the same thing when I saw him! They just said quarter horse but they aren't positive on if he's registered or full! I'm going to bet that he's got some TB in there, too.

We really wanted to keep his name Charlie but our neighbor is named Charlie and it would be weird :)) I think we are going with Shalom, but I'm not positive. The history on it is really special to us because of his stor. :)
