Why I've been silent...

No barn time in the last few days, but for a good reason. We've been preparing the house for an appraisal, if all goes well, we'll be okay'd for the 20 acres and by the end of this month, we could very well own it.

Own. It.

I can't even express how excited I am to have the horses home, I literally spend every day just imagining it. Yeah, it'll be hard work, but I haven't been to the barn in 5 days, haven't ridden in over a week. I love love love my barn and the people are just as close to perfect as they could get, but I am so ready to stop boarding. Having property like this is a dream come true for a farm girl who's been stuck in horrible property because of money issues, but having my horse's home with me? Dream doesn't even cut it. I can't wait to jump into training. As soon as we set up a little arena (going to fence in a square section and put some nice footing in it) I'm going to get some poles, trot poles and jumps built. I'll probably get some barrels in later just for fun, but I'll mostly be working on roping and Western Pleasure stuff with Red. If everything goes well, we may end up buying another horse later on and I'm hoping we get something that I can play around with different things with.

I've also thought about getting a trainer out for a lesson about once every couple months when money allows, I'd be paying for all of that so I have to be cheap but I think it would be good to get someone out every so often, I feel like Red could go so far in so many disciplines, but there's only so much I can do by myself. So far, he's willingly done everything I've thrown at him, other than jumping a couple logs on the trail. ;) He did it, just very slow and unhappily, haha! But he'll gladly jump the little, barely there limbs from tree's on the trails when I ask. Maybe I just need to start small.

Anyways, I'm pretty much just rambling. Hoping to get to the barn today and/or tomorrow for a ride, maybe try some bridleless out in the 4 acres. :) Woohoo!

  1. Hope the property works out. Getting a trainer to come is always a good idea, even if it is only sparingly.

I really want to get some different opinions on how we're working, so I'm interested to see if it works out!
