Blog Hop | Interested Parties

All horses deserve, at least once in their lives, to be loved by a little girl.

Another great blog hop from L! I couldn't jump in much with the most recent ones because they didn't really apply (like traveling...the most traveling I've done is to my barn from home which was about 3 miles away, haha!) but this one most certainly does.

Soo....what made you interested in your current horse that lead you to buying them in the first place?

If you've read the blog long enough to know Red's history, you'll know that he was the prettiest horse in the bunch. He wasn't the healthiest. He was stubborn as a mule and seemed to have very basic training. His best quality was that he was reliable, which was my first need in a first horse. He was absoloutly nothing that I wanted, nothing that I imagined. In my head, I had already planned out my first horse. He or she would be a Paint or a flashy Quarter Horse, foundation bred, huge, a great mover, maybe a bit feisty but not to the point of it being dangerous - something that liked to run. I wanted a Paint the most, though. Probably a white and brown overo with a long, flowing mane. Any girls dream horse after watching the movie Spirit and seeing the mare, Rain, on the movie screen for the first time.

I may not have ended up with my Paint, but I did end up with my heart horse.

I honestly don't know why I fell in love with "Little Red" as he was dubbed at the time. Most people claimed that I only loved him because he was the horse that was available, but I knew that wasn't the case. I don't know what first attracted me to him. He wasn't flashy, he was lazy, he wasn't the type of horse that I wanted, he was a fixer-upper, but I loved him from the second I saw him and I couldn't stop thinking about him. Maybe because I'm stubborn and I was determined to find the gold at the end of the rainbow. I like fixer-uppers. I like discovering the diamonds in the rough, and something told me that with some time and my love could change him. I had the biggest expectations - I told everyone that, with help, I'd have him enjoying his work and enjoying people. We all had doubt that he would pull through and be a huge, nice Quarter Horse, one that someone would actually want to pay money for (look-wise) and actually enjoy doing stuff like loping around or taking nice slow rides, but he did it.

I loved him because every horse deserves the chance to be loved by someone and I think he loves me back. I don't love him for any certain thing that he does, for any certain quirk, I love him because...I just do. He's my heart horse.
